Whether March came in like a lion or a lamb, one thing’s for certain, Malia Franklin–lioness of the vocal persuasion, may have left the earth but will be definitely heard forever. On March 8 at the Conga Room in Los Angeles, Malina Moye joined a legendary line up of Funk masters who paid tribute to the vocal powerhouse. The night featured Sheila E, Bootsy Collins, George Clinton, Malina Moye and others. Franklin was a lead voice in George Clinton’s first female spin-off group, Parlet. Her credited background vocals with Parliament Funkadelic and date back to the 1975 “Chocolate City” album.
Furthermore, Ms. Franklin introduced Clinton to a young and struggling Bootsy Collins in 1971, thus changing the course of pop-music history. For more information (click here).
